Should Christians follow the Law for Salvation?
Posted June 27th, 2009 by OmarE
We have heard many times that faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to obtain eternal life. However, some individuals state that we still need to the follow the Law to obtain salvation. Some individuals say the lord does not change as an argument that christians should follow the Law and others state that when Jesus came and died on the cross that the law was abolished.
State the facts from the bible and prove your argument.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

The Laws of God reveals alot about his character; Psalm 19:7 'The law of the Lord is PERFECT, converting the soul'.In the old testament Righteousness by faith fulfilled that law. The ordinances, the ten commandments, instructions to men, women, priests, offering and religious regulations were given to avoid folly and false worship.Since there were false Gods/Idols God made it the first commmandment Exodus 20:1-6 that we should know and worship him, therefore those who followed the law of God was distinguished as Gods people. Christ said 'If ye love me, keep my commandments John 14:15. Galatians 3:8-14 explains that by the law all men were cursed and guilty (for all have sinned)and sentenced to perish but Christ through his obedience of that same law obeyed for us and saved us from the curse of the law. Galatians 3:22-25 Outlines that 'before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed verse 24 says ' wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ that we might be justified by faith, but after that faith is come we are no longer under a schoolmaster'. All was fulfilled in Christ but that doesnt mean that we are free to do as we wish because 1 Peter 2: 21 states that 'for even hereunto were ye called; because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that ye should follow his steps'. When Christ was resurrected he gave a charge in Matthew 28: 18-20 ' Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you'. We are saved by accepting the free gift of salvation jonah 2:9 'salvation is of the Lord' given to us by Jesus Christ we are not to be legalistic but Christ obeyed the law as we are to obey the law (commandments). The need for the service of sacrifices and offerings ceased when the lamb of God was slain, he was the complete and perfect offering (Ephesians 2:15 and 16).Christ saved us from the curse and penalty of the law but we still need to honour the ten commandments are a perpetual covenant Exodus 31:16.Via the new covenant we can only honor the law properly by accepting and beholding Christ and allowing him to work within us. Even in the book of Revelation(the last book) 12 vs 17 states that ' and the Dragon was wroth with the woman and went to make war with the remnant of her seed WHICH KEPT THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD and have the testimony of Jesus Christ'.
Those of us who love God and Christ have no issues with obeying his laws of love and justice for they are for our benefit as stated in 2 Corinthians 4:15 ' for all things are for our sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God'. Amen.
