John the disciple of Jesus wrote the book of Revelation. Interestingly though Revelation was written before the gospel of St.John and the epistles of 1,2,3 John, even though it's the last book of the Bible. All were written on the Isle of Patmos where John was exiled for standing up for God. Imagine his persecutors thought to rid the world of his influence by banishing him to that remote island but God worked it out because he was no longer persecuted and was therefore able to reach so much more people through his writings than he probably would have reached had he not been exiled. As Romans 8:31 says "If God be for us, Who can be against us?"
Revelation means to reveal, and reveals what is to happen at the close of this world's history. In the book of Daniel chapter 12:9-13, God tells Daniel to close up the book and seal up the vision until the end when all shall be revealed, and that's what He did in Revelation. That is why Revelation and Daniel parallel each other in Bible prophecy. That's why Revelation is last.

Thank you for the very detailed information. Since Revelation was written at the same time as the books, why was Revelation put as the last book?
